MNWB named as official charity for London International Shipping Week

Umbrella charity for Merchant Navy selected as official charity for London International Shipping Week 2025

The Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB) is proud to announce it has been selected as one of the official charities at London International Shipping Week 2025 (LISW25).

As the umbrella charity for the UK Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets which represents 47 member charities across welfare, the MNWB will feature at one of the most important global shipping and maritime events in the world. LISW25 hosts thousands of international industry decision-makers who will attend hundreds of events during the week.

Commenting on the news, MNWB Chief Executive Stuart Rivers said:

“We are honoured to be named an official charity for LISW25.”

“This recognition highlights the essential role of maritime welfare and gives us a fantastic platform to champion the welfare of seafarers on a global stage.

“With just over five months to go until the events unfold, we look forward to being a part of the week’s celebrations and initiatives.”

Chosen from a competitive pool of 14 applicants, MNWB is among four organisations who have been chosen as official charities including Sir Thomas Lipton Foundation, Project Connect, and the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF).

All four charities, who will lead a programme of scheduled events, have been recognised for their impactful proposals and alignment with this year’s themes of innovation and change management.

Each charity presented compelling plans to address key challenges within the maritime community, ranging from education and industry advancement to safety at sea. The selection was based on stringent criteria that included the potential for long-term impact, innovation in approach, and the feasibility of their proposed initiatives.

Sean Moloney, co-CEO and co-Founder of LISW, welcomed the announcement of the new charities.

“We are delighted to be able to work this year with this set of amazing charities. They do such a great job in their areas of operation and the LISW25 Steering Group looks forward to involving them fully within the LISW25 week in September.

“We were lucky enough to have 14 charities apply this year and we are pleased to announce that as they are all supporting organisations, they are free to hold their own events during LISW25 and we will do everything we can to support them.”

LISW25 runs from September 15-19 across a number of locations in London.
